Loretta Waquan – Councillor

Responsible for Social Assistance, Addictions, Elders, Community Development, Treasurer and Health

Loretta has lived in Fort McKay the majority of her life and knows what this community and members are capable of. Over the years she has inventoried the community members needs, worked with service providers in Fort McMurray and the Fort McKay First Nation to help address the social needs of FMMN members. Her efforts resulted in the development of the Social Development Department which now has a fulltime staff who plan and supervise social services programs for FMMN members. Loretta strongly believes that her “spirit is guided by the teachings of our Elders, which has ensured me to walk the correct path in developing our community”. One of Loretta’s current goal is to develop an Elders’ Cultural Area/site to carry out teachings and knowledge transfer.
